Default regearing

I have been searching the site and got some good info on this. But I have a Question can I put a set of used gears in the front and put new gears in the rear.

Of course, so long as they are in serviceable condition and properly installed. The ring gear and pinion develop wear patterns over time, so if you put in used ones they must be a matched set. You can't just replace one and not the other. Same thing with new. If you replace a ring gear you should also replace the pinion (and vice versa) or they will wear prematurely.

they are a matched set the guy had them in his jeep ran them for 20 miles and did not like them so he regeared to 4.56. I dont thank anything could be wrong with them in 20 miles do you.

That sounds really fishy! I'll bet they were whining...

And YES you can ruin a set of gears in 20 miles! As a matter of fact, that's more than enough time to hose a set that been installed improperly.

IMHO, Don't take them unless they're free and you're prepared to gamble on buying a new set and paying for the reinstall anyway.

Aim is technically correct, but such damage should be readily visible on the gear teeth. Have the mechanic installing the gears check them out beforehand to be safe. Lots of people do gear swaps and then decide they don't like how it changes the way their vehicle operates. Not everyone that changes gears is trying to accommodate oversize tires. Some do it thinking it will make the vehicle perform better down low, but then realize the hit they take in top speed and gas mileage isn't worth it.
