Ram 1500 take off issues
Hi all! New to this forum. I have a 2001 Ram Sport 5.9L. Having a bit of trouble. When I take off from a complete stop, it seems like I have to give it alot of gas to get moving. Feels like it is winding slowly and then takes off like a bat out of hell! Shifting is fine - not sloppy - no banging. FYI - I had alot of tranny work done 2500 miles ago - torque converter, pressure plate, trans plate, etc. Seemed to be ok to start and then had this same problem. I returned to the dealer and was told the tranny work was good and stated it was a "performance issue". Stated they got "misfire on all 8 cylinder" codes. She was running great as far as I was concerned but, with these tough SOB trucks anything is possible . OK fine, did a tuneup. (BTW - took it to get codes read but they had been cleared. ) It seemed to be doing fine until now. Stopped and checked for codes today - nothing! I'm tired of paying the dealership for them to tell me it's something else. Performance wise - it's great. Any suggestions?
P.S - Did I mention I'm a female with enough knowledge and hands on experience - luv my truck!
ADDED - Tuneup included Bosch wires, Champion plugs, decent cap/rotor, ignition coil, cleaned throttle body, & air filter. Also used a good fuel injector cleaner in the tank. After all this, she seemed to run great - ate crow & apologized to dealership for ripping into them. The initial work on the tranny was because she was having trouble shifting at around 40 MPH. Almost like she was "searching" for the correct gear. The CEL came on an I took it to have the codes read @ AutoZone. They told me what codes were. I took it to the dealership because I had the extended warranty. They had her for 10 days - doing their thing. I'm thinking some kind of performance issue again only because this is the same way she acted before the tuneup and that seemed to correct the problem. But ex says tranny.

Welcome to the forum!
If you don't mind me asking, what did you do in the tuneup? Plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor?
Any brass cap and rotor will work, and any decent set of wires (not a cheapo Autozone set or something like that). However, for spark plugs, our trucks are pretty picky. Some like Autolites, but most prefer Champion stock type or Champion Truck plugs. NGK has also proven to be pretty decent recently, with their Iridium (very long lasting) and V-power plugs.
What wires/plugs/cap/rotor did you use (brand name, part #, and all that)? When did you last check/replace the ignition coil?

FYI Dealer service will 95% of the time will clear codes prior to returning vehicle. At least the ones I have dealt with do, something about "avoiding repeat come backs". You stated it is shifting fine, but what was the original complaint you had the trans mostly rebuilt in the first place. Alot of us are fairly to very knowledgeable, but without info your gonna get alot of general information.
