Overheating
I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.2L that starts to overheat if the outside temp is higher than 90 and/or the AC is turned on. At one point i noticed the coolant in the reserve tank kept depleting so i put some radio stop leak in. it hasnt done it since but is still overheating. i just moved to hawaii from viriginia and the truck isnt liking it to much. any suggestions?
I would suggest replacing your water pump, fan clutch and take your radiator to a shop to have it unclogged. The one problem my truck has given me (Which took me a while to figure out) was the same trouble your having. The water pump from the factory was crap and it fell apart internally. All the metal broke down and clogged up my radiator. I then added radiator sealer to see if I had a leak somewhere and that only made it worse. Little by little I replaced each one looking for the culprit. Finally when I took out the water pump I knew I found it. I replaced water pump, fan clutch, unplugged the radiator and put on new hoses and thermostat and have never had a problem since. Its a few hours of work and a whole lot of peace of mind afterward.
