ok thanks for the info man im just trying to get my truck back on the road and im layed off and this guy is selling this tranny cheaper than i have found anywhere else but i didnt know if there was a difference between the 99 and 2001 rams
You get an A for effort.
Yes the 46re is the same between the 5.2 and 5.9 BUT they are not the same between 99 and 01.
If you put that 99 in your 2001 like it is you will not get 4th gear.
There are two different governor pressure sensors, they have the TFT sensor built into them (transmission fluid temperature).
If you mix up the two designs the computer cant read the incorrect TFT and it will lock out 4th gear, until you drive it for 30 minutes or so and get it very hot. Then it will allow 4th gear and lockup, but once you park it and let it cool back down it wont work again.
You have to change out the governor pressure sensors, which requires different wiring harnesses.
So you have to take the wiring harness off of your transmission and swap it over the the other transmission, long with the governor pressure sensor.
Ask me how i know.

If you can turn a wrench you can take the VB off.
Take out the 10 7/16's bolts, make sure your linkages on the outside are off. Loosen the VB from the case, you should be able to pull it out. You need to pull up and forward to clear the solenoid connectors and the park rod. It may need a little persuasion.
