Default Of all the days to be without my truck...(rant)

Of all the days to be without my truck, this was by far the worst. My truck is in the shop until Wednesday getting some body work done, and my friends Chevy blew an intake gasket a few days ago so we were truck-less. Yesterday was the 17th annual B93.7 Birthday Bash (free country music concert with Blake Shelton, Lost Trailers, Zach Brown Band, ect...pretty much just a gathering of 10,000+ redneck hicks) and I had to take our little '98 Mazda 626. The parking lot was a huge open hay field right next to the Grand River. Due to the torrential rains over the last couple days some ****head decided to open up Webber Dam in Lansing which completely flooded the field, leaving some cars sunk up to the windows in river water. The county tried to dump crushed asphalt in the roadway to bring it up a few feet, but it was a losing battle since the water was rising over a foot per hour. They were only letting 4wd vehicles leave until a Chevy blazer framed it right in the middle of the road so nobody could get out. We were then told to leave our cars and evacuate. When I left at 11:00 last night, the water was half way up the rims on my car and it was predicted to rise another 2 feet before it crests. Now my car is one of hundreds floating around in a hay field in Ionia until I can retrieve it Wednesday. If only I would have had my truck...

Here's some pics of the carnage

Sounds like somebodies insurance is going to have a pretty big bill next week.

The guy that opened the dam is probably just following some procedure guide that some engineer in an office created.

There were a couple of cummins there pulling people out, but the real "hero" was a '04 ford f250 with a 12" lift. Kinda sad, I know.

Yeah the dam was opened because the river reached a certain level, I know it was just procedure, but they could have told everyone at the concert before they opened it up. There was no warning at all.

that 12" lift would have kept everything but the axles and the tires outta the water judging by the pictures. i would have said screw the officials and been ***** to the wall trying to get the car out. it was gonna get flooded anyway so it wouldn't be any worse off. and with a front wheel drive you might have stood a chance. unless there was some higher ground inside the field, then i would have tried to get it there.

They used the dozer to pull the blazer out.

Sheriff420, funny you mention "***** to the wall", I heard that more than a dozen times that day. There's really nothing funnier than watching a little grand prix throw water 30 feet into the air while bouncing off the rev limiter. There were more than a few people that hydro locked their cars trying to get through.

Well, talked to the radio station and the word now is that Thursday is the earliest we can think about retrieving our cars. They said they're gonna start hauling vehicles to higher ground Wednesday night and we can see if they're actually drivable Thursday.

Haha we just took full coverage off the car 2 months ago. We are currently looking for a new car...

Wow what a cluster, I heard about that.
I was wondering what kind of venue that was, too bad it didn't happen to rappers.
