Default timingchainchange

I have 113 k miles on my 1998 5.9L truck and was thinking of changing my timing chain. Was wondering what is the typical mileage before these V8 engines need their timing chains changed.

I would hope a heckuva lot longer than that. I have 111k and will soon add another 3k on my annual road trip. Timing belts wear out alot sooner but chains should go til 200k I would hope.

mine was shot at 120k. but, i wouldn't change it by itself just for the hell of it. combine it with water pump, hoses, plenum repair, front/rear seal. water pump sits right on top of the timing cover.

mine was done at 70K, stretched out. Engine idled much smoother after that was replaced.

Mine has 111K. Took it to the shop and he found alot of other things wrong but he knows me and knows money is tight. Said dont worry about the water pump and timing right now b/c theres no problems. Already doing a full tune up, Hughes kit, front brakes calipers and all, rear pads and cylinders, tranny fluid/filter swap, new IAC, pre o2 sensor, pcv valve/hose, bypass hose. So i guess after i rebound from all this the wp and timing should be next?

And if you guys say do it now(chain) is this a good kit?

It all depends on the engine, some sooner like 90k and others get 200k or more.

Yes that's a good kit. I have it in my truck with no problems.
