Well some more details would help. But, lets start with basics. Any leaks? Overflow filled to proper level? How good/bad is the radiator? Heater core? When does it overheat? Highway speed, idle?

yes, all this would be good information to know. could be a bunch more things that you have yet to look into. i.e. radiator.

Besides making sure the fluid level is good and the rad is good as stated above, did you check the T-stat before install? And did you buy a good one or a cheap pos?

Nope, you can't go by that. I made the same mistake several years go and the radiator was plugged. If you are looking in the neck to see water movement it will fool you every time. You could have 90% plugged and still see water moving. Take it to a radiator shop and for $30 they can open it up and tell you how badly plugged up it is. I think I paid like $50 and the opened it, rodded it and closed it back up, and never had a problem since. A new one was $150 for a cheapo brand, back then.
