The reader I have said the $17 test were manufacturer designated, to see manufacturer for that info.

I have thought about the ignition switch but other htings that are dependent on it being on still work such as the radio, wipers, lights on the dash, a/c blower. Is that seperate parts of the ignition switch?

The ASD relay. I switched the relays. Three relays were the same part number. so I pulled the ASD and swap with another, then later swap with the other. But rom reading the service manual it didn't sound like it would shut the gauges on the dash down.

I will try to get another reader. I friend has one.

I had another thought. The gauges shut down when it quits, but not the lights on the dash or the odometer. whats the difference in those? what controls the gauges but doesn't control the odometer or dash lights?

My dad's Powerstroke acted like that when the alternator was going out. Have you had that checked? It's like youre not gettin enough juice.

Problem is getting worse. it stalled about six times today. In the past week has only been once or twice a day.
I have cleaned several ground wire as suggested and even put a couple of temp ground wires, no change.
I did see a new syptom, After it stalled today, the gauges all died as usual, i left the key in the ON position while looking wiggling wires, ect...
After a minute or two the mileage on the odometer started flashing and then said NO BUS.

Does that mean anything to anybody?

I will have the altenator checked as suggested. I will try anything at this point. Alt gauge read 14 v steady when running. who knows?

This usually indicates that a system has lost connection to the ECM. Definitely sounds like an electrical problem, intermittent in nature and possibly heat related. Do you have access to another ECM?
