Default Hub nut socket

I'm replacing front hub bearings on my 95 Ram 1500 4x4. Only problem is I can't find the right socket to remove the hub (spindle) nut. I believe it's a 1 3/4" nut but my 1 3/4" socket won't work because its' outside diameter is to large to fit into the recess that houses the nut.

Looks like I need a thin walled socket. Or maybe it's a special tool? I spent a big part of the day searching the parts stores with no success. The replacement bearing has a wider recess so there's no problem installing the new one. I just can't get the old one off.

If anyone has had this problem could you please tell me what socket I need and where might I buy it. Thanks

tractor supply will have that socket and i think harbor freight or sears may also. i've heard that 1 11/16ths is not a common size. it took me a while to find too, most places go up to 1 1/4 socket for the biggest one available.

If you don't plan on using it very soon Autozone and O'Reiley's have them to loan on their loan a tool program.

tractor supply had mine in 3/4" drive for 6 and some change and a 3/4" breaker bar for 15$. if you have trouble getting it to break loose, i was reading on an antique tractor forum that a 50/50 mix of atf and acetone is the best penetrant around. they did a torque test on a bunch of penetrating fluids and it took half the torque to break with the atf mix over kroil oil. and 1/4 the torque compared to pb blaster.

My socket is also 3/4 drive, but I also have an adapter to reduce it to 1/2".
