Default Getting a New Rear End

So tomorrow, I'm supposed to check out a rear end off of a totaled 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. Its the standard 1/2 ton 2wd rear axle with 3.55 gears like mine. I just want the disc brakes. But since the whole rear end only has 9000 miles on it, thats a plus.

So will I have any problems in swapping out axles? I've searched but havent come across anything useful yet.

Well I would have found one with lower gears personally, but besides that it should bolt up okay.

You're gonna have to upgrade the master and slave cylinder to accomodate the disc brakes, as there will be no where near enough pressure as is to operate calipers.

Do you know of a master cylinder off another vehicle that will fit? Will a 2002 and up bolt up?

Or can I just get an adjustable proportioning valve like this: http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS/JEGS-Adju...55192/10002/-1

Can't you just buy a conversion kit to switch to disc brakes?

Glad mine came with them

A conversion kit is way up there in price. This is (hopefully) the cheaper route.

Get the master & boost unit off of the same truck that you are getting the rear end from & you should be good to go.

I need the boost unit too? Yuck.. Are you sure I can't just use the master cylinder and the proportioning valve off that truck? I hope he still has all of these parts and for cheap..

I don't know if you need the boost unit for sure or not, but I figured I would throw that in just to be safe. I don't know if the two MC will be compatible with the one booster. Go online or call NAPA or your local parts store and see if they use the same part numbers for the booster units on both trucks. From a 98 to an 06 they may or may not have made any changes. I don't know if 4 wheel disk requires more boost than disk + drum.

I just checked Oreillys, they use a different booster. I'll have to see if he has the booster and master cylinder. If I get both, will I still need a proportioning valve?
