Default trainhorn install

i didnt want to completely hi-jack bluebeast2's thread... so i figured i'd start from where it was already hi-jacked hehe...

i figured i'd show you how an "airhorn" install should be ....

I had the compressor mounted in the engine compartment on top of the right fender. In the background you can see the quick port for connecting tools via hoses. There is a air pressure gauge that came with the compressor kit i bought. It is fairly cheap, but that compressor vibrates quite a bit so i didnt want to keep replacing an expensive gauge. (to this point its held up quite well).

The pressure line goes into a my wiring harness, you can't tell the differenence between the stock ones and mine. Both are covered by split tubing and zippy tied down. (its the lower one in the picture, i had to remove the zippy ties to get some slack on the factory harness so i could remove my engine.

The split tubing continues through the engine compartment and down the frame rail. When looking at the truck you have no idea whats inside hehe.

The tank is mounted via 1" square tubing off the frame rail and is held down via 4' redi-rod that i cut down.

I made my own relay center inside of the engine compartment on left hand side near the battery. The extra one with "Comp" was put there before i realized the kit came with a air pressure relay (pics further down). I will be using the extra one for future goodies. The other relays are for lights i have on the front of the truck, in the rear bumper ( i cut 5 1/2" holes in the bumper embed the lights, it looks sick!). Under the truck. The relays are a little messy, but cant do anything about that with soo many wires there.)

As mentioned i put the air pressure relay switch inside the compartment where the windshield wiper motor is as well as the vacuum unit for the cruise control.

You will have to use your imagination a little, I wanted this install to be stealth. I took the fan shroud off, used a 1" angle iron piece and mounted the 4, yes 4 train horns to it. When the shroud is connected to the truck, you can not see horns. If you look closely yes you can see the last horn stick out through the bottom of the shroud (these horns are massive). But even when you look up from the bottom you dont know what your looking at. The horns are completely hidden, you cant see them if you try and look into shroud from an angle.

i mentioned in a previous post, i have two guages for air pressure. The other one is mounted on a triple a pillar pod. (the middle pod will be filled soon with a tranny gauge).

I have not hooked up the train horns, to stock horns button on the steering wheel due to several reasons...
1) its illegal. If a cop pulls me over and hits the steering wheel, busted...
2) if the tank is empty for any reason there is no horn, in a emergency its nice to have something... if it does sound like a broken golf cart.
I dislocated the passenger airbag switch, its still connected, just behind the dashboard. and mounted a giant blue button and a toggle switch on the dashboard. You'd be surprised at the amount of ppl dont notice it...
The airplane toggle switches below activate the lights and manual override on the compressor. I removed the cubby hole that was there before and fab'd a piece of sheet metal that mounted in the same spot. I love dremels and grinders heh.

Now incase your curious... these are not your regular airhorns you get at advanced autoparts... these are 150db train horns... thats louder than a jet taking off, and i have scared enough ppl to prove it heh. I also have the tickets to prove that hehehe...

I am in the process of moving the compressor to the frame rail as well, one design flaw with the above install. The compressor does vibrate a lot, even with rubber bushings under it. I burnt out a few headlights on the right side because of it too. I just bought some projector headlights and will make another post about that. I was fine replacing the headlight every year or so when they only costed me 15 bucks... the projectors were a lot more than that and thats not cool heh.

miami... rofl... thats too funny!

No, i ran out of oil doing 90 mph down the highway... my plenum gasket broke and it sucked all the oil outta the engine, lifters fried, engine made funny noises... pulled over put oil in it... i drove like a little old grandma back to my house ( i was out in the middle of the country side) ...

In case your curious... other than the lifters, nothing was damaged, bearings were in perfect shape, cam and crank were good... i had to take the engine out and tear it down to find that out...

That deck that is in the dash has sirius radio connected to it via alpine's adapter. No sirius receiver stuck to my windshield, i can't stand that... The adapter is located under the glove box and in front the heater unit. I get all meta tag information on the screen. stealth is my middle name hehe.

If you want a fun tip. For those that have an alarm but are tired of the siren. You can connect the 'trigger switch' for the butterfly valve to the alarm horn. When the siren goes off so does your trainhorn. When that happens, you know its your truck, it will... and i mean *will* scare the living crap outta anyone who is thinking about taking your truck.... and its just funny when that happens!

Nice write up. Your tank is huge. I will have mine wired to a button as well. Is that a viair compressor? Just wanna throw this out there if it is a viair they make 2 different types. One is water tight and ones not. If you have the one that's not putting it under the truck might not be such a good idea

EDIT: Looking at the pics on my computer I can see that is a viair compressor. Which one is that?
