Default Shocks too short

OK, I bought a pair of Rancho 5000 from Napa to put on the front of my truck and they seem to be too short. By like 4" I tried a spring compressor to get the difference, but no luck. Rancho part number RS5197, I have a 1996 Ram 1500 4x4 sport.
Any idea why they were too short?

Thanks
Greg

Not that the build sheets says, I have heavy duty everything, including shocks.

By the way, how would I know if I had the off-road package? Jsut by looking at the parts on the truck.
Thanks

Should be a sticker on the tailgate it is in the upper right hand coner on mine and it also has tow hooks in the front although I think you can get those without the offroad package. If you have a Sport it doesn't have the off road package.

Thanks, I thought I didn't have that package. Humm....... No I am stumped as to why these shocks don't fit. The only thing I can think of is that somebody put a small lift or other springs on this truck.

I think I got it. The shocks NAPA said were for my truck (RS RS5195) are actually for the 2wd model not the 4wd model. The correct part number would be RS RS5197 for the 4wd model. How fun!
