Opinion on Steelies
My truck has Toyo A/T's on it. I love them. IMO, they are an excellent tire, and I have never had a problem with them.
WOW! So many replies. Thanks guys.
I can confirm as the guy who owns the truck with the tires, they are Maxxis Buckshot Mudders.
Far as the tread wear, that is an old pic. The difference between the inner treads now is almost 1/2 inch and its causing one hell of a rattle in the cab. The rears are not having this problem at all. Matter of fact, Ive rotated the tires once already and the tires that were on the front (now on the rear) have evened themselves back out.
Its hard to get a pic of the camber issue I'm refering to. You can see it standing by the truck. The driver's side is worse than the passenger. It's been aligned twice and the shops (two different ones) told me my ball joints are good. I also replaced one of the cam bolts on the lower control arms and adjusted them so they are pointed in the same direction (last shop that did my alignment didn't even touch them even though they were pointed in OPPOSITE directions!) so my axle is staight.
My only guess is that something is worn out, or wearing out. The problem here is that I don't have the money to replace parts all the time. I'd rather rock wheels that put the least amount of stress on everything to make parts last longer. I pretty sure I can still run a large anough tire to have fun off-road with a stock size wheel. I'm not looking to go rock climbing or bogging in the swamps of Florida or anything so I don't need 40" X 15" tires.
I saw a 2nd Gen Ram on the way to work this morning rocking the same wheels I was thinking of (chrome stock steelies) with oversized A/T's and (IMO) his truck looked better than mine! I don't dig the pushed out look unless the tires are big enough to complete that look and 33's don't cut it IMO. 35's would look hawt, but with 3.55's in the diffs, I don't think so. The truck barely holds 70MPH in OD as it is (and that's on a good day).
Cliffs notes:
-I rock Maxxis
-Tire wear is worse now and rattles the teeth out of my head
-Alignment's been done...twice
-I'm broke and trying to get out of debt, not further into it by replacing wheel bearings once a year
-wheels in line with the body look better IMO (unless there's fender flares or larger tires).
Thanks again, guys!
