Check engine light code P302
Hey ya'll I'm new to the site and on my 1997 dodge ram 1500 (5.9 gas) I keep getting a code of p302 cylinder 2 misfire. I've checked the cap and rotor, it looked fine, very little corrosion and no wear on the rotor. I put new 7mm bosch spark plug wires and champion platinum plugs. Compression test shows 125+ on all cylinders and I put a new Accel coil on it. I've had it on the obdII code reader at autozone 10+ times and it's always the same code. When I did the compression test, I put a new plug in the #2 cylinder and the check engine light went off immediately. That was 2 weeks ago, and yesterday the light came back on. Keep in mind that the light came back on after I put the new accel coil on it. Anybody got an idea?

hey loganville, welcome to df.
pull plug #2 and see if its fouled. if so it might be plenum.
compression check seems good, so its not the unspeakable (cracked head).
i might replace rotor and cap just to rule it out.
did the cel go out on its own after you replaced the coil, or did you reset pcm.
how long did it stay out before coming back on ?
i read that cel also went out immediately after new plug...
and stayed out for 2 weeks and has now come back...

Last night I put in a new cap and rotor, the old one was pretty worn. I'd say 100,000 miles plus of wear, and I put a new spark plug in the #2 cylinder. The cel went immediately off, same as last time. I never had to reset the computer because as soon as I put a new plug in, the cel goes off. It was about 150 miles or so of driving when the cel came back on 2 days ago . The motor has a little lifter sound coming from it when it's cold. I used marvel mystery oil and it cleared it up, but could it still be a deflated lifter?

The spark plug looked ok. It was black behind the electrode and a little carbon on the tip, but wasn't gunked up with buildup. I put spectre wire separators on all of the wires the day I put the cap and rotor on. Could the spark be arcing on the metal plug protector that goes around the spark plug boot?
