Default Oil in spark plug seat cylindes 7 + 8 normal?

My truck has been running fine and completed a tune up about 10K miles ago. No issues at all. But i did remember when i pulled cylinder 7 + 8 's spark plugs that there was oil on them and in the seats where they sit. Is this normal? Again i've had no problems but these spark plugs were soaked with oil.

According to Haynes manual...

OIL DEPOSITS

Symptoms: Oily coating caused by poor oil control. Oil is leaking past worn valve guides or piston rings into the combustion chamber. Causes hard starting, misfiring, and hesitation.
Recommendation: Correct the mechanical condition with necessary repairs and install new plugs.

I'm sure there are other reasons as well, however. Other forum members will contribute these as they log on, I'm sure.

Tell tale signs of a blown plenum. Do a search and you will find out how to check that gasket.

I'm guessing you mean the outside of the plug was covered in oil, not the part inside the engine. If so, look for valve cover leaks.

Its the part thats inside the engine. Where the spark is produced. truck runs fine though and i checked for plenum gasket leak and nothing, inside the manifold looked perfect. So must be valve guides or piston rings eh? Wonder how much longer i can go before addressing this problem. Spending $1200 right now on a new trans.

probably wouldn"t hurt to do a cylinder leakage test or even a compression test. A cylinder leakage test will tell you if and how much leakage is going threw the rings or valve guides. If you do a compression test and it is low in those cylinders squirt a couple drops of oil in the cylinders and redo it if it raises in compression you know it is the rings. Prolly not to much to worry about for now if it runs good.

yea is the oil on the out side.. like where the wire attachs or is it on the inside, where the spark is.... both are bad, but one is a heck of alot easier to fix...

what if the oil was just on the threads of the spark plug and not on the tip? my thunderbird had that on all of them but it used to run great.

Honestly, IMO, a 96 Ram, if it starts and runs well, and your not burning alot of oil, then I wouldnt bother with that.

Is that what you want to hear?

My wifes old 94 camry did the same thing in cyl 3 from 190k to around 240k when we sold it starting and running well.

I dont think its worth loosing sleep over if your engine has high mileage. If you just had it rebuilt however....
