Underhood insulation
In some applications a hood liner may be useful. On our trucks or on older vehicles made with heavier metals I doubt it helps any. On vehicles equipped with fiberglass hoods, or as in the current Mustang where the hood is made of Aluminum, I don't know if the engine heat build up over time may cause warping.
Yeah I saw a car engulfed in a CvS parkinglot last month. I'm not disagreeing with you here, it seems like wishful thinking that this would stop a fire. But engineers..well, you know
I want to remove mine, because there's a hole in it, and mice/squirrels and other rodents get in there and make themselves a little home and catch a free ride. Oh, and they like to reproduce in there.
I'm surprised they don't just fry.

Wow ! What timing, I bought my truck new in '01. Mine has been sagging for over a year, when I started to notice it, I tried to "duct tape" through existing holes. It worked for about a week then started sagging again. a couple days ago I finally ripped it out. Do not plan on replacing, so we'll see how it goes.

That's what my hood looks like too but mine had a mud hole throw up on it and I'm too lazy to clean it. I figure it's a natural barrier between the paint and the engine heat, ha!
Trucks never been parked in my garage & paint on the hood was fine till the Jag landed on it last month lol.
My Indy I removed it end of the 90s (saving wt) but its spent most of its time inside its garage
