Hey everyone. The time has come to buy some new tires for my pickup and i've got two in mind and thought I would see which tire you all prefer, or which one you'd suggest on top of these two. The first choice is the BFG All Terrain T/A KO 265 75R16. Thats a good tire, which is what I have on it right now and have been nothing short of satisfied. The other i'm considering is the Toyo Open Country All Terrain 265 75R16. I hear good things about them and they are a good aggressive looking tire just the the BFG. So out of those two, lets hear which one you'd prefer!

 

I think I would pick the Toyo Hands Down!

 

i havent run the toyo A/T but i can vouch for the M/T. I think Toyo makes a pretty good product. i think Toyo will most likely be more expensive than the BFGs.

Its a tough call considering you already know what the BFGs are capable of, you would be spending more money on a product you havent used if you went with Toyo.

My vote is for the Toyos, just because I hate the tread design of the A/T KOs.

 

we have been running 285 75 16 toyos on my moms surburban now for 5 years and love the tires. quiet, ride good, and have yet to get her stuck. not that we do any crazy off roading with it

 

I have seen the toyos a/t at work in mud on a jeep liberty. Well I think its a LIGHT a/t. They look nice I know when I was shopping they where on the list. They are going to cost a few 100 bucks more than most tires. Toyo makes a good m/t and street tires. Ok now what I saw. The tires didn't really want to clean in mike shake mud. I caught up with this kid. The track(if u will) looks like and oval. Well he was in 4lo I has in 4hi. He sat there and spun so much. That I got out and asked him If he wanted a tow. I like my general grabber at2. They look just like the bfg but they cost as much. They do good all around. The tire is meatty but not loud. Good on wet black top. I would look in the general grabber a2t.

 

Whatever you pick, go with a 70 instead of a 75. Gives you better handling, more tire on the road. Trust me, you'll notice the difference.

 

I went with the 70 for the same reason. Much better than the 75. I also have a wider tire.

 

How could getting a 70 instead of a 75 "put more tire on the road"? That number is essentially the height of the tire, not the width. I can see a little better towing/performance as there is less sidewall, but theres not more tire on the road. And it would give him a shorter tire than he probably wants.

Anywho, I vote for the BFG's. I have had several sets of them over the years and had nothing but spectacular performance with long lasting tread life. Although, the Toyos are no doubt a very nice tire too, but I just don't have any first hand info on them.

70 does refer to the width of the tire. The numbers (265 75R16) all together make a combination referring to a ratio between height and width. It is a trade off where by changing one you get more or less of the other. The difference in height is minuscule. If he is really concerned about height he can ask the tire place exactly what will give him a taller and wider tire. The wider your time, the better the handling. I still have my spare that is the old 75 and by placing the two next to each other (which I have done) you can see that there is really no real difference in height, but the 70 is wider.
