has anyone else out ther had issues with the front tires rubbing on the control arms even my stock tires 245-75-16 rubbed then i switched to 285-75-16 and it has chewed a chunk of tire all the way around about an inch away from the rim it looks like crap and i am worried the tire might blow any help would be nice
well you have a problem if even the 245s were rubbing but 285s are the biggest you can fit on a stock 1500 4x4 thats the size i have on mine and they dont rub with stock rims and suspension if you truck is 2wd then i think 265 is the widest tire you can fit on stock wheels but still any ram should be able to fit 245s i dont know what to tell you sorry if my post is hard to read i didnt bother to use punctuation my bad ok bye
Seriously though, is your truck's suspension stock? Most Rams, both 2 and 4 wheel drive, came with 245/75/16 tires as original equipment. I can understand the 285's rubbing, as some 1500 owners have reported that, while others, like me, have no issues at all with them. If your 245's were rubbing, is it possible that the alignment was so badly off that it could cause that? Has your truck ever been hit in the front that you are aware of?
I 'Biggie Sized' my tires to 285's aswell and only get rubbing when I make a hard left turn....Just take it easy on the turning radius and you'll be fine...
check out the back of your spindle, there is a solid piece of metal toward the bottom/back of it that keeps the back of the wheel from turning too far, if it were damaged then you would be able to turn too far and you would hit your control arms.
Maybe this truck was in a wreck and has damage you are not aware of? Rubbing with stock tires is weird. I think Sheriff may have a point and you should check that out.
Would wheel spacers take care of the problem? I've got a 97 Ram 4x4 stock suspension with 285/75/16's and they rub a little when I make a hard turn in Drive & Reverse.
