Default 4x4 Trans in a 4x2?

Searched but could really find what i Needed.
Trans went out on the old beast and have a line on one from a 4x4. Mine is only 2 wheel drive. Will this fit.

Mine 94 ram 1500 2wd 46rh 5.2
His 95 ram 1500 4x4 46rh

Though it should but he's saying it won't. Would love an answer

I don't think you can swap tail sections on these trannies. If not, then it won't work as the 4X4 tranny has a flat tail section that mounts to the transfer case. The 4X2 has a straight output shaft for the driveshaft. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure.

It will need a 2-wheel drive tail shaft extension

To clarify more. If your overdrive unit is good you could swap them.

It won't work unless you swap overdrive units, which is more trouble than it's worth.

thanks for the info guys, guy said it was rebuilt less than 5000 ago so was really hoping i could use it. guess it's on with looking for a 2wd again.
