Have you figured out what is causing this? My truck is having the exact same problem but it's now at the point where if I don't hit the gas it gets worse and sometimes even stalls. I have replaced the cap, rotor, wires, spark plugs, plenum gasket (x2), throttle body gasket and idle air sensor (x2). I think it has to be something with the PCM but I don't know for sure. A while back I sprayed some carb cleaner into the idle air motor area and it calmed down for a bit.

Any ideas?

On cold starts mine also ran like it had a big cam in it, and you could hear the IAC sucking air for a few seconds and then it would close up and idle smooth. It never bothered me, I kinda liked the sound but it went away as soon as I installed the Mopar PCM

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the Mopar PCM and how much was it? Did you have to get it reprogrammed?

I was looking around and I found a place that sold rebuilt PCM's and would program it to match the truck for about $309 shipped (ebay I believe).

Thanks!

I bought it used for a steal at $115 shipped. It comes from Mopar with a custom "tune" in it already.

Jegs still carries them for select years.

Thumbs up

My '95 Ram 5.2L ran the same way. I replaced wires, cap, button, plugs and #2 injector. All the codes and backfiring went away, but still had idle issues. Cleaned throttlebody while still on the intake and the problem cleared up for a while. Now it started stalling at stop signs and lights, and especially when I burped the throttle (eg moving up in a drive thru).
I pulled the IAC, cleaned it and sprayed the port where the IAC is mounted, took 3 Q-tips and swabbed the inside of the port (careful not to leave any lint behind). This cleared all my idle problems. I can burp the throttle with no probs and it seems to have better throttle response and the hesitation is gone. There is alot to be said about proper cleaning of the throttlebody. Hope this helps.
