Yeah I agree with everyone else on here, unless you're willing to buy a wrecked 4x4 with a good frame and do a cab and bed swap you're better off just getting a 4x4 the frames on 2wd and 4wd are different, you would have to do alot of grinding and cutting off those hardened steel rivits and getting new ones installed.

I'm not the sane person, so if a mechanic let me know what I might need I will do the trial and error to make it work on my truck. my list consists of:

Front Axel
Transfer case
Transfer case motor
Drive Shaft Front
Drive Shaft Rear
(front end rebuild on all arms)

If there is anything that I might be missing let me know so I can calculate the cost I know it would cost me another 10 grand to upgrade to a 4x4 6MT 5.9L. I figured this would work for the cost. Got the truck from a friend for a great deal, yeah it runs like a champ no problems, and it gets 28 MPG highway @ 75MPH only 21-22 City. Figure they will go down when I add the front end weight.

Diesel the real hybrid.

Dont forget the 4x4 transmission...... T-case won't bolt to the 2x4 flavor.

Also the steer systems were a wee bi differnt, control arms and mounts as well, youd be better off by ordering a set of dick cepeck long arms if you planned on installing any kind of lift

Or do leaves if your not scared of a rough ride. A few on the DF have done this with success, and the suspension build is much simpler.

locker is the next best thing to 4x4...since a 4x4 without lsd or locker is only really 2wd anyway (one wheel in the front and one in the back with the wheel with the least traction getting the drive when slipping)... with a locker you just get drive in both rear wheels...

yep, I've seen a locked 2wd truck with nice 31x10.50 BFG mud terrains, and that thing would follow most 4wd trucks
