Default Truck speed sensor(Transmission)

Well today after work i went and got a new speed sensor for the transmission.

I had an ABS and break light and no cruise control. I looked online and it says it would be the vehicle speed sensor on the trany.

So i replaced it and still the same problem. no cruise and lights come on at like 35-40 mph

The sensor on the rear dif was changed about 4 months ago. i dont think it would be that but idk(will try pull it out without it breaking tomorrow to see if its dirty)

Anyone else have any idea what it could be...

this problem gets posted a lot and it goes back and forth between the 2 sensors. i've not had it yet, and can't keep track of the final answer. i'd just replace the rear diff sensor next and hope for the best. keep your old trans sensor for the next time this happens. if you've got a receipt or warranty on the rear diff sensor that's 4 months old, just take it back and tell em its broke. i don't know where you got it but autozone is really good about honoring warranties.

well i would return my rear dif sensor but i purchased from advanced auto parts which they closed down.

Here is what i gathered from the haynes manual.

Transmission sensor- when sensor goes bad the ABS ans Brake light will come on, and you will lose your cruise control.(I figured it was this one because i have these problems)

Rear dif sensor- When sensor goes bad the speedometer will not work until around 30mph and the miles on the vehicle will stop counting.

So i was wondering what is the point of the sensors. what do they read. Do they read the gears or the fuel levels and if they are messed up it trips the sensor
