California V10 Catalytic Conv. Problem
heh, before we started having the illegal immigrant problem my family was already farming, my great grandfather farmed this land, my grandfather farmed it, my father farms it, and im working for him, we have never had an out of family employee work for us, only family, and ill tell you what, i am god damn proud to be able to say that, and proud to say that i live and work on it.
i have a question regarding the 4 oxygen sensors on my california truck. are they all the same? or is there a difference between the front o2 sensor and the rear sensor? ive heard several different stories here and need a definite answer.
There are four oxygen sensors, one the left and right headpipe, one on the cat where the two headpipes join, and one behind the cat. All three in front of the cat have the same number stamped on them and look alike, and the one behind the cat has a different number and looks different. The bad one was easy to find: I was getting a "lean left bank" code, but my gas milage dropped way off and I had soot in the exhaust. The sensor THOUGHT it was lean so the computer kept adding fuel.
I did find an internet Dodge dealer who sold me the cat for $1149 which is a lot better than the $1760 retail! I am impressed with the dealer and will use him in the future for any needed OEM Dodge parts. His prices were excellent, and he told me exactly when the parts would be at my door. I do not want to turn this into an ad for the dealer, but its chryslerpartscenter.com.
The old cat sounded like a brick in a coffee can when I shook it after I removed it. I guess the plates just broke loose internally. I also added a Gibson catback (Sweptside) while I was at it so everything from the manifolds back is new. I considered headers, but haven't been too impressed with the gains advertised from headers on the V10, especially for the cost. The Gibson catback is ok, but I really expected a better fit on the brackets and tailpipe...its advertised as stock replacement, but should be advertised as "close to" stock replacement. I had to moodify a couple of things.
I took my trailer to my favorite fishing spot (Rock Creek in the Eastern Sierra) and towed up a huge grade last weekend and am happy with the results - no check engine lite and I think I even hit double digits on the gas mileage once or twice!!
