i, like many dodge owners are fighting rust. on the back corner of the cab between the cab and the bed, i have paint bubbles where water is trapped between the paint and the metal. i was told my a body guy/relative that i should drill weep holes along the bottom of the cab to help drain any water. but i have those rubber plugs all along the inside of the rockerpanels, would it help if i sprayed a rust inhibiter in there maybe to hold the rust at bay, seeing that its rusting from the inside out. Any help would be greatly apprecitated

 

i dont think thats water trapped under the paint, its just the rust building up under there

 

Yep, theres no magic to pull now... its already over. Go ahead and lightly push on the cab corner area with your finger, it may just go right through the body... mine did, and I didn't have have a single bubble, just nice shiny paint.

Sheeet that sounds just like dry rot or termite damage. Wood looks nice & even, then you poke it and your screwdriver goes all the way through. I hate it when that happens. Rust is a bear to deal with. Probably gonna have to cut a piece out and weld some new metal on. Kinda the same you have to do with wood. Surgery is the only cure in these cases.

 

just break out a grinder/dremel tool and make a day of rust removal then spray paint it.

 

That's the problem though. Once the bubbles start showing through its too late cause it rusts from the inside out at the cab corner. There is nothing behind it but rust, and when you remove it, well, there's nothing left but a hole.

It a pretty easy fix for a body man. All I did was have a guy cut the rust out, and weld in a new cab corner. He made it look easy, but I know better than that.

i know its not rust becasue i poked a hole in the bublbe and water came out. and the panel is still sturdy.

 

You obviously have water getting in somewhere. Water normally does not get in behind paint. The weep hole idea may not be a bad one. Why don't you pull you carpeting back and see what's up in there, or look at it from under the cab and see what you can learn?
