What do these numbers on the differential tell me?

Nothing, really. All the numbers pertaining to gear ratios or axle manufacture are on tags under the cover bolts, stamped in the gasket surface or stamped elsewhere on the axle. All that oil tells me you have a leak somewhere, though.

I bet when they open it up just about no gear oil comes out.

i think the numbers are just a part number for the cover itself. the tag on the left side of the cover will give you info on the guts of the differential.
