Here's the story on my truck .
One rough 95 shorty , some rust and peeled paint . I knew everyone involved . Truck sold from Jeff to Terry . Terry paid $1800 . Needed out of province , so , Terry spends $4400.00 on parts and labour (incl 4 new tires). It failed . Garage who inspected it gave a $2400 estimate to fix and pass it . Terry gave up and deemed in worthless , he has no mechanical aptitude . Sold it to Ralph for $650 . Ralph parked it till I came along . I got it for $900 cause he wanted to make a few bills off the deal . I get it , spend approx $250 on it and it passes with a bad track bar , loose leaf spring bolts , the worst leaf bushings you can possibly imagine , a bad cat and above all , a leaky gas tank . . Most of which I never caught till after
All the bugs have since been fixed by yours truely . Tough to find good help these days , even if we pay out our *** . That's why I do my own work . From the money I have saved , I have every tool I need , some in triplicat

yea, well, i love my truck and wouldn't sell it to anyone, its still got many many miles left in her, so i deem it "salvageable". after i get all this fixed, i still have more stuff wrong with her. leaking seals (front axle, rear transmission), front axle u-joints, steering stabilizer, and some loose bolts somewhere i can feel in the floor board. (i planned on replacing shocks anyway).

I believe that the clock spring is for the ABS/Airbag system. I broke mine in my S-10 and it will throw a code. Thank god in Indiana we do not have to do inspections!!

well, it wasn't even an emissions inspection! virginia state police say that inspection stations have to check for exhaust leaks as part of the normal safety inspection. so on top of the stuff they found during the inspection, they pretty much threw my entire exhaust system into the estimate and wanted to charge $1200 to fix everything for it to pass. maybe to them, i look like a money tree i guess.

In Europe, your vehicle would have been impounded and crushed. I believe the same holds true for Japan.

Yea, well those places are pretty much Socialists (which is where we're headed) and they have excellent train & bus systems which we don't. That's why most people use public transportation over there because it works and the cities are much smaller. In the U.S. with urban sprawl, it would take yo days just to get around town.
