Disassembling the steering wheel ('98+)
You talking about the intermediate shaft that slides? I'm talking about the steering column itself, when you hold the wheel and pull or push, it should not move in and out. And last time I checked the clockspring was not cheap, and that is not a part I would recommend getting one from a JY.
I'll probably disconnect the battery the night before to be extra sure...and might just wear my motorcycle helmet.

The steering wheel is solid. The column does not move at all except for the tilt adjustment and turning the wheel. But when the tilt adjustment is lock in place, the wheel has no play at all up/down, side/side or in/out. Also, adjusting the tilt has no effect on the squeak at all.
Far as the spring goes, I don't plan to replace it. If something squeaks, there's an oil, lubicrant, or grease that'll stop it. I plan to grease it somehow but I want to get the wheel apart to get a good look at it and see what I'm up against.

Acually it is 2 minutes. But you can go 15 minutes to be safe. Sit down, and have a cold beer.
It may be something else rubbing in there, which obviously you wont see until it's apart. But,I wouldn't be spraying anything in the clock spring. And you do know you need a puller right?
Check the manual to see if you need to pull the wheel off or not. I don't know if the air bag can be removed by removing the two screws from the back or if the wheel needs to come off to do it properly.

That manual is frigging confusing.
"To remove steering wheel, see Clock Spring removal." In the Clock Spring removal section: "To remove the clock spring, see airbag removal section." In the air bag removal section: "To remove the air bag, see another section that will have you chasing your tail."
Ugh. They can't make 'em simple, can they?
