Default Overdrive On or Off?

Ive got a 96 ram 1500 V6. the majority of my driving is in the city, no more than 70Kmh.

Is it better to have the overdrive on or off? what about highway driving? and what would the differences be with it on or off.

any feedback is appreciated, thanx.

Default RE: Overdrive On or Off?

After I had my transmission rebuild (luckily, I had a warranty still), my dealer told me it is best to drive with it off when in town, and when towing or hauling any kind of heavy load. They advised to only us it when on the highway at speeds over 50 or 55.

ditto that. OD on at low speeds results in a lot of extra hunting for the right gear and can cause wear and heat related problems (resulting in premature failure).
