Default Growly Tranny

Hey, I've got a '96 1500 with 318 auto, 2wd. It's got over 323,000 kms on it, and has developed a growly/whine type of sound in the tranny. It comes when in 3rd a wee bit, but mostly 4th. When the OD is turned off, it nearly completely dissapears. The tranny shops in my area figure its bearings. I'm a small-town shop mechanic, but we don't do tranny stuff, just flush/filter change, which I did. I was wondering, does one need special tools to change bearings in the overdrive unit? Has anyone done this before? Thanks for any help!

there's not many people on here with transmission experience. try contacting montec. he's not on much anymore, so you'll probably have to email him or pm.
