ok tell me if this sounds right? the guy from the shop called me and said that the rear axle housing was bent and that is what is causing the dog tracking. they can fix this with some sort of press.he also told me that sway im feeling could be the gear box needs changed.the last place i took it to adjusted the box cause i had some play in the steering wheel. so maybe it is going bad.
when i steer the truck ,like say in a parking lot, it doesnt return to the straight position like it should . it just stays either left or right until you turn it back straight. does anyone think that this could be causing the sway im feeling. worse the faster i go.(70mph NOT FUN)
just wanting some input before i plunk down some money on this. thanks again for all the advise and comments

the failure of the steering wheel to return to center is an indication that the steering box adjustment is too tight. if it started this after the adjustment, you need to back it off just a little bit.

front end sway might be related to steering box, i don't know... if i was you, i'd chase one end at a time.

i'm a little leary about trying to straighten the rear end housing. i'm sure it can be done, but i'd think it would have to be removed from the truck and placed in a press, and then sort of bent a little at a time until somebody decides thats enough. then re-installed. how much is it bent and how much will that cost? i'd think it might be cheaper and easier to just get a complete (non LSD) rear end from the junk yard that's NOT wrecked in the rear. roll out the old and roll in the new and hope that the differential is good.

yeah hte company deals with trucks and trailers and straightens axles all the time with a certain designed press. 210 dollars is the total cost to straighten it.
im having the gear box replaced tommorrow and hopefully that takes care of the sway im experiencing
the gear box was adjusted because of alot of play in the wheel about 3 inches of play
