I am probably going with 488's for gearing, want it low but still need to be able to get some speed in the desert. My tires now are 36 x 13.5, I was surprised by the rubbing myself, but my rims have a little over 4.5 BS. I think the lift as it sits now would clear 38's and if I move the axle another inch or so forward 40's would fit.
Not really interested in going higher with the lift, I would rather cut.

Just got back from a 700 mile drive with it, went up to Huntington Lake and back over the weekend. Truck was overheating and trany was slipping, or getting stuck in second gear at times. I knew it wasn't ready for that long of a drive, happy to have made it back home. Funny how you don't really get to choose what you do to the truck next..thought my next project was going to be axles.
The lift is a Dick Cepek 6" lift, I have seen it on the net from $12 to 1,600.
I am not to happy with the up travel on the shocks either, I am thinking about having some 1-2" spacers made to raise the tower a bit. But the upper arm can only cycle up so far with out running into the body. It's tought to have a truck that is good in rocks and the desert. If I had it my way the fenders would be gone and I would have coil overs on it...but that's going to be a long time down the road $$$.
