Code P0201, P0203 (P0300, P0301, P0303)

Default Code P0201, P0203 (P0300, P0301, P0303)

I'm new to working on the Dodge. I have a '96 Ram 1500 with a little under 65k miles.

My check engine light is lit with codes P0201 (Injector 1 Control Circuit), P0203 (Injector 3 Control Circuit), P0300 (Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire), P0301 (Cylinder 1 Misfire) and P0303 (Cylinder 3 Misfire). I'm guessing that the latter three codes are a result of the first two.

I cleared the codes and re-scanned. The Injector codes popped up immediately and the misfires listed as Pending codes.

There was no check engine the last time that I drove it and it seemed to be fine. I got the check engine as soon as I started it up a few days ago, and it drove badly. I drove it only a few hundred feet before turning back and parking it as I was afraid that it would stall on me, and haven't driven it since.

I've read that it could be the plugs, wires, injectors and maybe the TPS. Given the relatively low mileage and sudden onset, anyone have any ideas that can help me narrow my focus?

Swap the 2 injectors with the codes with 2 others from the motor and see if the codes move to those cylinders.

+1 for zman's suggestion.

My guess would be those two injectors are bad, but zman's idea would narrow it down. Plugs or wires, maybe (doubtful with those codes), TPS really doubtful. But weirder stuff has happened.

OK, so it's been a few months now and I've just found time to work on it.

I invested in a Chilton repair manual (which doesn't seem very good) and did a preliminary test on the injectors before trying to swap them around. The manual states that the resistance on the injectors should read around 13.3 - 15.7 ohms. I tested the two injectors and found that they read around 12.2. "Bingo!", I thought to myself until I tested the other injectors which also read at around the same. Googled it and saw mention that 12.5 is normal.

So, two questions:

1. Which is normal, 12.5 or the higher range as specified by Chilton?
2. Being that they all read between 12.0 and 12.5, should I still swap them around, or should I look elsewhere for the problem?

I've sprayed contact cleaner on the connectors to eliminate the possibility of a bad connection; cleared and rescanned the trouble codes and they still come back P0201 (Injector 1 Control Circuit), P0203 (Injector 3 Control Circuit).

OK. Took one last look at it this evening and I think that I might have found the problem. Unless it's normal to have sections of wire missing from the wire harness to the injectors, it looks like $*(#@$)@#%) squirrels chewed away through the conduit and chomped out about a 2 to 3 inch section of several wires such that they look cut off.

alrighty. can you identify the wires by color and splice in repair sections ?

There are maybe three or four wires that I can see that need to be repaired. I'm going to try to solder in new wire to replace the missing sections. I'll take a closer look at it in the morning and report back.

I read the code p0201 and replaced the injector however after driving 20 miles code came back any ideas on what to do next

Create your own thread, and give us some more info on the truck and what you've done. Have you tried swapping it with another injector yet?
