The pinging arises from a bad plenum which they opted not to fix. They took the cheap way out. Now you get it!

Thank you sir. See, that wasn't so bad.

In fact, I'm reading up on this very issue in this thread https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...-what-now.html

but I'm still concerned about a couple things. And please tell me to take it to the other thread if it is not appropriate for this thread.

I just want to know that the "death" part of the death flash, is it the death of the engine, or the death of the PCM?

And does the v10 also fall in this category?

It is bad after you repeat it 1,000 times or more.

The "Death" refers to death of power. The timing is retarded 4* taking power away from your motor. No the V10 doesn't have this problem, it has a completely different intake system. The V10 was rather advanced for it's time, it also has distributorless ignition which didn't show up on other motors till much later.

Thank you so much for clearing that up for me. Sorry I was the 1001th person to ask.

Just something else to keep in mind. You "might" be able to pick one up at a junkyard. It would be the equivalent of hitting the lotto, but it's possible. You'd need one from a 2001 5.2 manual only though.

Why are they so hard to find? These trucks are popular trucks.

^ The PCM's are year, model, engine, tranny specific. A 2001 5.2 with a Manual tranny was not a popular option.

Manuals have their place, but I think you would get tired of driving it in bumper to bumper L.A. Traffic every day. Move 12 inches - stop - move 3 inches - stop - move 24 inches - stop.

Sorry guys for not getting back right away. I took a look on ebay so thanks for that suggestion. I got a quote from dodge... i expected higher than everyone else, but even with an employee discount it was still $728. I had a few choice words, but then again once i think about it... that sounds about right. that is prb a brand new dodge pcm where as the ones i am looking at are rebuilt. I am gonna try my napa hookup again and see where that takes me since we found out they have to call the manufacturer to order one (because they program vin etc.) and that explains why there were non in stock at the wearhouses. If that fails then it might be off to ebay
