intake gasket help
I just did my intake gasket, truck started and was idling. I hit the gas it died, it would only restart when I hit the gas. A mechanic told me the engine has to warm up for the gasket to seat?
All the electrical is plugged in, ill recheck everything. I did not see any loose wires, I did unplug a vacuum line, I heard it lose the vacuum it had could it need a few minutes to build the vacuum back?
No it shouldn't need more than a few seconds to build vacuum as engines are basically a giant air pump. If you have to hit the throttle to start it I would say your IAC motor is stuck closed and by hitting the throttle you opne the throttle body to allow air into the engine allowing it to start. make sure the wires going into the connector on the IAC aren't pulled out and not making good contact. You could also pull the IAC motor and see if you have carbon buildup in there and on the motor itself. If you do clean it thoroughly and reinstall it and see if that works.
Probably is a loose connection but stranger things have happened which is why I am trying to give you all the options and let you take it from there.

I had the throttle body upside down so I'm hoping the plunger got stuck or something. I go back to college next week so I have to get this done tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
where are you from? If you aren't too far away I could give you a hand getting it up and running. Otherwise we gotta do this via the net. could very well be that the IAC punger/piston is simply gummed up and is sticking. Try cleaning it and the opening in the intake. I would bet that will fix it.
Im in derry, NH so that would be way too far. Ill change the battery out, clean all connections and report back. Would the IAC or TPS explain why it chokes out when I hit the throttle tho? It seemed like it got too much air/not enough fuel or vice versa to make it die.
