Default Spark Plug Differences

I need to buy a new set of Autolite 3923 plugs. When buying plugs, is there any significant difference between the regular, platinum, and double platinum plugs? Only things I have seen, heard, or read are:
-Regular plugs are much cheaper,
-Regular plugs supposedly don't last as long,
-Double platinum plugs supposedly don't work well with hi power ignitions (if you've upgraded your ignition I guess).

What are your thoughts?
