Default Looking for a more "happy medium"..opinions wanted

Recently I got a job 40 miles away from my house (80 miles round trip a day 5 times a week). It's an awesome job but with the 15x10's and 33"s the gas mileage sucked. So I went back to the stock wheels 16x7's with 225"s for commuting purposes...went from 12mpg to 16mpg on the highway!!! Anyway, I think Id like to find a more happy medium so that I can run a nice rim and tire all the time and still get decent mileage. Perhaps a 16x8? And 265's? What backspace and offset should I look for so it doesnt rub? The 33"s rub quite a bit with the 15x10's so Im also looking for something that will work better with my truck. I have no lift. Thanks guys.

Bigger gears with the 33's and rims you had on it? Probably won't get 16 on the highway but better than what you had previously.

yeah i dont have that kinda money lol...i just want an aftermarket rim that still looks nice but doesnt rub, paired with tires that also look good but maybe i can squeeze 14mpg out of. Moreso i wanna know if 16x8's with 265's will rub cause i love the look of my truck the way it is with the 33's and 15x10's but hate the mileage, rubbing, etc. and cant afford to lift it so it doesnt rub and such.

With 265s, you're still going to lose MPGs, probably below that 14 mark if the 33s weren't doing it for you.

Not sure if this is the exact tire size you were looking at, but 265/75R16 tires are 32.8 inch tires... basically 33s.

What other work have you done to the truck? Plenum gasket replaced? I run 265s on my 5.9L V8 and stock rims, which aren't quite as wide as your 16x8s, but I get 12 MPG... in town. I have All Terrain tires.

If you want mileage, the size of the tire isn't everything, its also the tread. A mud tire will never get you good mileage.

Get some ones like mine or Jasons at the junkyard. I bet you could get a set of 4 for $100. Mount those on some all season tires and call it a day.

save up about 1500$ and get a little car to get back and forth to work with then you can have the truck the way you like it without having to sacrifice looks for mileage.

Amen, don't try to make an econobox out of a Man's truck! Get a freakin' Hyundai to drive back and forth to work. 35mpg will make it easy to justify the extra expense. Then you can drive the truck on weekends and not ever worry about the mileage!
