Default How to identify which motor I have

I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 single cab 2wd. I need to buy some parts for it, but I need to be sure what engine I have in it. Is there a easy way to identify the engine I have in there? I am thinking it is the big one, but I want to be certain before purchasing parts. May a VIN code identification?

Any help appreciated.

Eighth digit of your vin will tell you which engine you have. The 3.9L=X vin, the 5.2L=Y vin, the 5.9L=Z vin

it will also tell you on your radiator core support, along with some useless crap about emissions and the all important fan belt routing
