You can stroke the 318 to 390ci
Buddy stroked his 318 the first time to 349. 52tb, m1, rt202 hds cam, put down 271rwhp, thats about 350hp crank.
And how much did he spend to get there? I wasn't saying it isn't doable, just not cost effective and you'll likely be sacrificing the one thing the 318 has over almost any other engine: reliability.

Are the 318 and 360 the same block, just with different bores?

I believe they are the same block. Actually almost everything is the same that's why's its all interchangeable. Just different stroke. Beings it has a different stroke the crank would be different.

Lastrights might be right on the balancing. I've never looked to see how the 5.2 was balanced. I know my 360 has a. damper (balancer) on the crank pulley

This is my belief anyway but I could be totally wrong

I am gonna get a little snippy perhaps, after reading this, yet again" My Ram don't have enough HP, yada, yada, yada" thread. HP numbers are nice to brag about, but in all my racing expirence, Torque is the magic number. Ask any racer, especially a drag racer would he like 500 hp or 500 lb./ft of torque? You will never get the torque numbers out of a small block engine that you get out of a big block. Sure, a small block will pull higher rev's but that's about it. IMO Indy's engine setup is about the best engineered one I have seen on here. Alot of time,MONEY, and effort have gone into it. So for all you "noobs" and fourm regulars, there is no "magic potion", there is nothing you can buy, bolt on, machine, pour in or any other thing you can think of that will allow these engines to magically grow 100 or more cubic inches. For all the tricks, tweaks and bolt ons we have at our disposal, its still a small block. There is no replacement for displacement.
We have big heavy trucks, hp doesn't get them up and moving, torque does. Why do we debate so much on gearing here?

And the line "I'll just buy a Hemi and drop it in"? Get a grip.

52, m1, cam, rockers & rt202 hds were all used. Lots of parts can be had for decent cost if your not in a big rush. The machine work and stroker kit cost him a few bucks. We are Cdn so it costs us 60% more for new parts usually unless the seller BS's the border declaration Shipping/brokerage fees are the wild card lol. Ive been bent over big time by Summit on a # of occassions with out so much as a kiss for foreplay

I admit I'm spending money on my rebuild. I got a lot of **** I don't need. I am looking for more off the line power. I was never out for a 300 hp truck. Like you said twisted its a big heavy truck. Its a 4x4 winter driver. I don't need tons of power. That's why I didn't go all out 408.

I have a Mustang to go fast in

Amen, torque will always win the race

Edit, thanks btw, your right, lot of time & money into my setup

FYI, I made almost the exact same rwhp (270) on the same dyno as buddy I mention.
I had stock bottom end, stock heads but everything else was similar to his (52, m1, cam, rockers).
My Ram was faster than his stroked 318 Dak (92/stripped down)
We both added superchargers next. His Vortech made 10psi, my Procharger saw 7psi. He ran 12.92 et, me 12.91, both at the same track

we can get decent power out of the blocks with simple stuff , but yet can get exspensive, just got to think what all you want ... like i just want something mild with power when i want it just to have fun... i dont have money to go all out
