I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L 318. I think the horse power is at like 245 stock i would like to get over 300 anyone have a truck with over 300 horsepower in a 318 engine? Any ideas would help alot.. I was thinking of getting a HEMI engine and putting it in but probably would cost alot more then just get mods...
That block can hadle 500 easy even 550 proporly built and tuned. Sell it and buy a truck with a 360 to start with. In the long run it will save you a lot of time and money.

Eh, say what you want, but there isn't that big of a difference between the 318 small block and the 360 small block. You can do just as much with a 318 as you can the 360. It's a pride thing at this point for me. Yea, it's gonna cost more, but still doable.
318ci is 230hp not 245hp. The 97 or older were rated 220hp.
You can stroke the 318 to 390ci
Buddy stroked his 318 the first time to 349. 52tb, m1, rt202 hds cam, put down 271rwhp, thats about 350hp crank.

I wasnt real clear. not machineing the blocks. Just saying that if he had a 360 driving around town he would be much happyer because it porduces more power stock. and with a couple of mods he would be very content with the power.
