Question Dodge Ram 1500 Warmup??? Sluggish

I am new to owning a Dodge but I love it. Only problem is that when I first start it in the morning, it sounds almost like a vacuum leak, but after a minute or so it revs up and smooths out. Is this normal or should I be worried that (like Chevy) I will encounter expensive problems soon????? I also have tried to find a way to reset the shift point if possible but no luck yet. It seems to shift at strange points, (but still smooth).. Thanks for the help in advance!!

I failed to mention this is a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 w/ 5.2 auto trans. All Stock. Sorry for the missing info.

"Like chevy I will encounter expensive problems soon" A late model GM with problems.... unheard of surely you jest?

Seriously now... No better no worse all have their issues, achillies heals so to speak...

When first started will the CEL come on @5 seconds then go out?
Any known codes......autozone will do a free code check.

If no codes ....your description sucking sound...look for a vacuum leak, especially check the intake... a failed plenum gskt is very common.

Shift points are controlled by computer SO any drivability issue will need t be addressed.

whistling sound might be associated with the higher rpm cold idle and higher air flow and maybe a leaking air filter connection at the top of the TB. the stock air filter can be a challenge to get it on straight and tight. there's supposed to be a rubber gasket on there - sometimes it gets lost or messed up. that gasket is cheap, only $1-2.

The air leak sound goes away after the idle kicks (from aprox 800rpm to 1200rpm and then back to steady) If i do not let the idle settle the truck is real sluggish and sounds as though not getting the correct fuel/air mixture. But as for the codes, I've plugged it in to 3 different readers and found nothing. But I do not think there is a rubber gasket on top of the tb. I will go check and let you know. Thanks for the help.

Also, where can i find an id tag for the trans in this truck.

Turns out, there is no gasket for the air filter assembly to tb. Bought one, puttin it on tomorrow. Maybe this will fix the problem.

QUESTION I was told that the tires i have LT285/75/16 may be wearing on the drivetrain to the point that it will not last long. Is it really that bad for the truck to have done this?

bull****. it won't hurt it. it does change the gearing and makes it feel like a pig with 3.55 gears, but it doesn't hurt it.

i don't know, but if you have a 95 V8 you have a 46RH and if you have a V6 you have something else, not sure what it is, maybe a 45RH

I've heard that might be what it is but is that a good trans for Heavy work or should I consider upgrading for towing and maybe some light plowing. I have already decided to install helper spring in the rear. I noticed it was dipping BAD when i towed my old ford to the track. And are these Transmissions known for shifting into O/D too early or is this something i should look into with mine?

If you aren't ******* it, yes the trannies will shift into OD too soon (IMO). Mine has kicked in as early as 45 mph before, but keep in mind, these are a three speed with over drive...

Bigger tires aren't going to put more wear on your drivetrain, but they will put more wear on your suspension and steering components.
