while you have the pan off you should inspect the wire thats on the bottom of the valve body to make sure it hasn't rubbed through the insulation, its not common but if it does then you will have an rpm surge in overdrive.
mine kind of does this, but only does it slightly when i'm going down hill and coasting. or when im in a low gear going up a hill and keep the throttle at the same position.

funny thing i just found my trans cable was not connected. after reading alot about tranny shifting problems got me to looking and it was disconnected. but after re hooking it back up it didnt want to shift. but with it off it shifts fine with 2nd to 3rd
being a little long. what gives.

By transmission cable, are you referring to the transmission cable on the passenger side of the throttle body?

If so, if that isn't hooked up properly (the length adjusted properly), you will have shifting problems. You can't just hook it up and expect it to work, unfortunately.

theres a trans cable on the passenger side of the throttle body? :O where exactly? whats it look like?

Its called the "throttle valve cable", or "TV cable" for short.

Pages 1888-1890 in the Service Manual.

If it still doesn't shift properly after the TV is reinstalled and adjusted right, then there is a good chance the output speed sensor is no good or has a broken wire/connection etc....
