Rear bumper on 2001 Sport
Hello everyone..my first post here..
I just bought a silver 2001 sport. The rear bumper is chrome and very rusty. Not sure if its the factory bumper or not. Should it be silver as well on a sport?
I am going to get it fixed up but not sure what color to go with!

Hit the whole thing with a wire wheel on a grinder and paint it with Duplicolor. You should be able to find your color at AutoZone. If you do not want to deal with stripping the chrome off (PITA), you could go to the junkyard and find a Sport bumper of any color and just sand it and paint it to match.
^^ Sounds like a good plan considering he said his is full of rust. Rust ALWAYS comes back, no matter how good you clean it off.

Not true. If you remove all the surface rust (sandblasting is best for this), use metal prep solution (a very caustic chemical) and a proper primer, you can paint over previously rusted metal no problem.
OK Miami, it's been my experience that with grinding (Since I don't have a sand blaster) all the way down to bare, clean, rust free metal, where there is absolutely no rust left, and priming with a rust prevention metal primer it seems to always make it's way back. Rust is to metal what cancer is to humans. You can never be 100% cured, you just go into remission. I prefer to just start with a new piece, but to each their own.
That's why you must use metal prep before priming. Primer alone will not do it. Metal prep will kill the rust and etch the metal so that the primer adheres better. I would never paint a piece of metal without using metal prep first and expect it not to rust.
