^ Probably because they were heavier and more expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if there was also some stupid law about glass not being safe in crashes.

Actually, contrary to popular belief, they do serve a purpose. If you look close to the base of the peg, there should be a number molded in the plastic. These pegs are used to mount a headlight alignment tool. Although most people just do it by shining thier lights on a wall, this is the correct way to adjust a headlight.

I knew that. I meant they serve no purpose to me since I can adjust my headlights without the gizmo.

i always thought they were from production...i learned something today

i need to do mine, they are yellow as crap, they would almost have to be brighter when they are clean

i think its the heat on the plastic, our Kenworth has glass lenses, and they are perfectly clear

Actually, plastic allows them to make more body-contouring shapes that flow with the lines of the vehicle. This not only looks better, but allows designers to make vehicles that are more aerodynamic and have less wind drag. Glass has optical properties and must be shaped a certain way so as not to distort the beam, whereas plastic is more forgiving and has less effect on the light pattern.

hence why the lenses on the KW are square and flat, and actually do an awesome job of pushing some light, especially with the brights on, all 4 bulbs, really lights up a dark highway
