Security?
I have a Code Alarm 2 way, remote start ect.
I like it for basic protection.
One thing that is nice but a true double edged sword is the feature that auto locks the doors, I think in 30 seconds. Can be disabled, but I like it so have always used that option.
The obvious drawback to this is if you forget your keys in the vehicle.
Did that a few times, one time at a mall.
I could see the keys dangling from the ignition, I was glad I didn't lose them, but now I had a problem.
Told my situation to a couple roving rent a cops, they had a door slim, so I thought I'd be in in seconds.
They tried, I tried, for about 15 minutes, no joy.
More came over, more tried, no luck.
A couple regular cops came by and tried their luck, no one got in my truck that night, had to call someone at home about 15 miles away to run out a spare set.
So after that, I finally started stashing a key outside the truck.
I have also tried to scam my way into the sliding back window, no luck.
No doubt if I didn't mind mangling it I could have got in, but for as cheaply made as it seems, its proof against casual intrusions.

Do theives not buy wheel lock kits too? Do they not look in glove boxes for your key?
Nobody pays attention to alarms. They are dated for security unless you build the speaker into your headrest. Then that might work better.
You can't leave dogs in the truck during the summer so that doesn't work year round.
Leaving your nice gun in your truck might be of more interest than your actual truck. Bye bye gun and stereo.
You might try a kill switch like race cars have to prevent it from driving off.

Mine is under hood, easily visible too ,,, And as soon as the hood is popped, the alarm goes off.
Probably sooner, since they'd most likely have to get in the vehicle first to pop the hood.
So it offers a few seconds of alert, thats all I need.
My horn also blares out along with the speaker, might have a harder time clipping that.
Xray - I think the alarm would be better if the alarm speaker was built into the headrest of the driver's seat. It wouldn't be loug outside but that dude trying to drive off with that right at his head is gonna have a heck of a headache. And put it on a delay so it goes off after he's sitting in it.
Or run a set of electrodes to the seat from the battery that if you don't disable the switch, it sends a full battery charge to their butt.
Or maybe rig a die pack from a bank at the windshield so if it's not disabled it explodes and they can't see out.
Or a system that if not disabled will hit a rev limiter at 1000 rpm. You could ride your bike and catch them.

I just have it stuck in my head, that while I would fairly well think that 99% of the members on this forum would never break into another person's vehicle; it's the non members that can read our forums as well. I don't mind sharing with the members though.

In my truck I have this thing called an "Immobilizer" which my insurance company forced me to put on because the 2nd gen Ram is either top 10 or top 100 for getting stolen here. If i didn't have it I couldn't insure my truck. good thing is they paid for it too.

I do, thats all that counts for me.
Plus my 2 way sends a signal to my remote [assuming that I am in range] and my remote starts vibrating and buzzing.
It also has a pre alarm, a little series of chirps it emits if it detects something, but not quite strong enough to set it off, as a warning for people to back off.
That little chirp gets me up & running too, whenever I hear it.
