bad mechanic?
was wondering if anyone has had any trouble like this and tell me what the mechanic did wrong. i took my 2500, 360 truck in to get fixed as it was stumbling and backfiring every once and a while, would not move when this would happen. took it to a mechanic, they spent about 10 hours replacing sensors and finally they thought they found a bad o2 sensor. took the truck home and shortley found out that was not the problem. after reading on this forum i told the mechanic to replace the plenum and intake gaskets..............just got it home today worked good and did not hesitate once. picked up my dump trailer got on the highway and went to pass a truck. kicked it down and realized it would not go any faster than 90 kmh even when it was kicked down. shortly after the engine started to wrapp like a diesel and then the check gage light came on (no oil pressure) i pulled over immmediatley and the truck stalled also extremley over heated. gave it a couple of minutes tryed to turn it over and it acted as if the battery was almost dead, only roll over a couple of times did not start. had it towed back to the garage. any help as to what they did wrong would help as i think they don't know what they are doing. (he said they didn't affect the oil when they did the job) any help would be appreciated Al
Why are they replacing sensors at random? Were there any codes or CEL showing? Sounds like they didn't know what they were doing and used the process of elimination on it. I hope you didn't throw a rod because that's what it sounds like.
I bet the cat is all done too. And along with the blown plenum, the original problem. They should have done a back pressure test instead of just replacing sensors.

What could of happen is if he did not clean the heads or intake. The intake gasket could have blow or leak coolant in the oil making the motor over heat. With water in the oil the bearings can spin or come apart. If he cross the wires you would have notice that right away.

if you had a good mechanic it would take less than an hour to test all the sencors. your mechanic probably doesn't have the proper tool to check all the sensors. those snap on scantools are very nice and locate the problems very effectively.
