ground wires, need help.
hello,
i am almost done my rebuild, the only thing i didnt label was the ground wires. There are two sets that connect to the back of the firewall. The passenger side has two wires that connect to a single eyelet/grounding connector. the driver side has 1 wire.
Im kicking myself for doing this because i have a good understanding of electricity but... i hooked up one of the wires from the passenger side to the bracket that has the gadget (sorry brain fried) that connects to the dist. cap. and the other ground wire to alternator (i know, i know im an idiot). I did this because thats one of the few spots that length of cable would reach. I also connected the negative terminal from the battery to the connector. well, it took about 30 secs of the engine being on and i fried the thinner wire from the passenger side firewall to the alternator. With my knowledge of resistance i should have.... i do know better.
But it seemed it like it went there. Can anyone out there explain to me where these two ground wires go? I have to go to the dealership/junk yard to get a new grounding wire now.

theres 2 on the passenger side, 1 has a smaller eyelet which goes to on the valve cover, the other goes in a bolt on the back of the head or bell housing , and the side on the drivers side goes on the back of the head. I did the same thing, had one hooked up on the back of the block and the other 2 on the stud on the alt bracket, and I fried the one on the back of the block when I went to crank it over.
What is happening here is that the returns are being interchanged for another circuit by accident (due to miswire) and, when that happens, the AWG is not able to handle the load and pops like a fuse.
