Default Ram wont start

Was running, the 30 minutes later would only fire a little then stall. 8 hours later no fire. Fuel pump? How can I test it? 1996 2500 V10

turn the key to the on position (lights, but not cranking), and listen for the fuel pump to prime. if you dont hear it, that's probably your problem.

Thats what I thought it might be because it happened suddenly. Is there a fuse or relay that I can check? I thought fuel pumps go out gradually.

mine didnt go out gradually...check the fuel pump first...just to make sure thats your problem. then you can check fuses/relays. if you find that you can't hear your pump prime when you turn the key, then swap a known good relay for your current fuel relay and see if anything happens. if its still the same thing, i would say fuel pump.

Check all the fuses in the PDC, especially the square ones on the "top" left side of the PDC, closer to the engine.

I doubt thats the issue, but you never know.

Then (or before the fuses) you can check fuel pressure at the rails.

I can't hear the fuel pump priming. I don't think that I ever have actually. I turned the key on and got down next to the gas tank and didn't hear anything. The relay for the fuel pump is under the hood? I'll give it a look.

The pump only runs for a couple seconds, so by the time you go back to listen, it's off. Have some one else turn the key while you stay back there and listen. Even if you do hear it, that does not mean it's pumping fuel. You need to test it with a fuel pressure tester, the only real way to know.

Ok, I have a buddy whos going to help me turn the key so I can listen and also crank while I test for spark. I did just change the wires, so that has to be considered a weak point also. I am also going to try and find the pressure release for the fuel line on the fuel rail and see if the pump is building any pressure. It's been raining constantly here in georgia for several days now and I don't like laying under my truck in the water as much as I used to. Tomorrow though... it will all get tested and Ill post my findings. Thanks for the tips
