Default 2nd to 3rd gear too quick

On my 99 2500, going from 1st to 2nd is fine, but it goes from 2nd gear to 3rd gear too quickly. Even when I step on the gas, when I'm in 2nd, the rpms jump up a little and it goes into 3rd. If I'm just driving normal it changes into 3rd about two seconds after going into 2nd and then it's a dog trying to get it up to speed. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas what the reason is?? Would too much fluid be the reason?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that link, very helpful. I'll have to diagnose that. I don' know anything about valve bodies or the internals, so I'll probably have someone else look at it.

when mine started to act up i went to a transmission shop and they did a free diagnosis. i guess they figure that its only 15 minutes of the techs time to potentially get 1500-2000$ worth of business.
he test drove it and told me what he thought it was, then we went back to the shop and he got his scan tool and checked it on the test drive to confirm his diagnosis.

so call around to transmission shops and see if you can find one that will do free diagnosis. it also wouldn't hurt to seem like you're going to have them fix it for you on the phone call (asking for price, time it would take to fix it etc...)

if the truck has a 46RE a very common problem with them and ive done repair on a few for people is the pressure transducer and the siliniod. if you drop the tranny pan, take out the filter there will be a plate with 7 bolts take off that plate and both of those parts are right under that plate. the tranducer ive never been able to get at a local parts store. but this is what the tranny guy at my local dodge dealer sees all the time. parts run about 230. easy job to do yourself

thats great that the transmission can stay in the truck to do it. and you'll get a fresh filter and fluid all at the same time, so its win-win.

OK, so that would cause the 2-3 gear shift then? Wish I knew this earlier, I just did the transmission filter on it a few days ago. I'll have to look into this - thanks.
