General question about rotors
So one of my rotors is sticking to the point of digging in to the rotor. My question is, can I have just that rotor resurfaced or do they ALWAYS have to be done in pairs? I'v had them for about 18 months and the other rotor is solid. I'm obviously gonna rebuild my caliper and change my pads. Thanks for the help!
if it changed colors (mainly blue) then it is probably toast.
as long as it isn't below the minimum thickness then you can have it turned.
you might want to replace that brake line while your at it, it might have been a collapsed brake line and not the caliper.
you should also get a heat gun from advance (20$) then after the first drive you can hop out and check the temp on both rotors and see if the new one is getting significantly hotter than the old one.

Check with the Auto parts store and have them check it to see if they can true the rotor up. They will use a micrometer to see if it falls within their specs for resurfacing. I would just replace the one that has been gouged if it can't be turned because it's too close to minimum specs and have the other one trued up. No sense spending more than you have to if the good rotor is close to being new. Also, I always do a rebuild or replacement to both calipers when one caliper is sticking. You will be wasting your time just doing the one side. Obviously replace the pads as well.
