Default 4 wheel drive question

when i shift into 4 wheel drive and give the truck some gas, there is a loud clanking noise coming from the front end. it feel like the truck is in 4x4 but, i can't tell if it's getting power to the front wheels. it makes so much noise like it's slipping out of 4 wheel drive. anyone got a suggestion as to the problem????

pull the cad unit and the differential cover off and inspect the gears. if they are not chipped or broken then at least you will have fresh differential fluid.
if the collar in the cad unit isn't broken then you may have a vacuum leak or a bad actuator in the cad that is not sliding the collar over far enough to completely engage the passenger axle.
